I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physical and Health Education from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
I have co-owned and managed a fitness club called Fitness Plus for 10 years and operated a personal training business called Phillips Lifestyle Management Inc. for 18 years.
I expanded my professional experiences to include a practice as a Level 2 Bioenergy Healing Therapist "The Domancic Method" in 2010.
I began my learning of end of living care with Stephen Jenkinson and the Orphan Wisdom school in Deacon, Ontario in 2009 and in 2011 I graduated from the Contemplative end of living Care Program at the Institute of Traditional Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. In 2012 under the tutelage of Jerrigrace Lyons of Final Passages, California I graduated as a Home Funeral Guide. I am also a Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant® through CF&I (Celebrant Foundation and Institute), and a Certified Celebrant with the CCAOC (Certified Celebrant Association of Canada).
I have been a volunteer with Hospice since 2000. I have served as a Director with the first residential Hospice in Northumberland County "The Bridge Hospice" located in Warkworth, Ontario from 2012-2015.
I have had the honour and privilege of assisting friends and acquaintances through the difficult conversations relating to preparation and planning for pre and post death care, and in 2013 and 2015 I have been privileged to support and guide families through a home death, a residential Hospice death and family directed home funerals.
"Your role as a Thanadoula and coach helped simplify the often complicated process of death.
I appreciated your accessibility when I needed to speak with you. I felt like I was a priority and that you were deeply connected to my situation and to my family's needs. Thank you for the many phone calls, Skype calls and emails. I know you had other clients and responsibilities but I always felt listened and heard when we'd communicate.
I also appreciated you helping with the drafting of my Mother's obituary. It was so comforting that you could provide a well written and objective perspective after my Mother's death. With the template I could personalize it with family names and particulars. I know many friends and family members felt the obituary was amazing and so well written." ~ Michael Crane
This topic is not an easy conversation to begin. Befriending death and allowing its presence to be felt reveals a truth to us all.
Let me help begin the conversation.
"Barb is both compassionate and knowledgeable. While death can be an overwhelming topic for many of us, her caring approach and warm personality gently diffuse anxiety so that communication can flow freely. Her awareness of all of the available options will ensure you are able to make informed decisions about what is best for you and your family." ~ Susan Niles
